Happy Labour Day!
As summer draws to an end, we wanted to give you a brief status update on the upcoming 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon harvest.
I spoke with the winemaker at Fielding Hills (the owner of Riverbend Orchard) last week, and he confirmed that everything is on-track for a premium harvest, sometime between the last week of September and the first week of October. Although we didn't get into specifics, "on-track" would mean that maturity, plant yield, acids, sugars and plant health were all positive and indicative of a great vintage. We are, needless to say, pretty darn excited about the Cabernet this year.
While the grapes mature, I've been busy getting shipping lined up and going through the somewhat intricate dance of import permits, ministerial exemptions, brokerage and other assorted trivium and bureaucracy.
I am happy to report that there was a significant amount of member interest in this year's vintage.
